أعلنت المفوضية الأوروبية، اليوم الاثنين، أن الاتحاد الأوروبي قرر تعبئة طائرتي إطفاء وفريق من رجال الإطفاء لمساعدة اليونان في مواجهة الحرائق الجديدة.
وأشار بيان للمفوضية إلى أنه “مع اندلاع حرائق جديدة في منطقة ألكساندروبوليس-فيريس باليونان، ينشر الاتحاد الأوروبي طائرتين لمكافحة الحرائق مقرهما قبرص وفريق إطفاء روماني عبر آلية الحماية المدنية التابعة للاتحاد الأوروبي”.
وأضاف المصدر ذاته أنه من المتوقع وصول 56 من رجال الإطفاء و10 مركبات إلى اليونان اليوم الإثنين، مسجلا وجود فريق إطفاء فرنسي في اليونان في إطار مخطط التأهب لموسم حرائق الغابات في الاتحاد الأوروبي.
وفي هذا الصدد، قال المفوض المسؤول عن إدارة الأزمات، يانيز لينارتشيتش، إن “اليونان شهدت أسوأ شهر يوليوز منذ العام 2008 من حيث حرائق الغابات. فالمنطقة المحروقة أكبر والحرائق أكثر حدة وعنفا، مما أدى إلى تدمير مساحة أكبر من ذي قبل”.
وأضاف أن حريق ألكسندروبوليس- فيريس أدى إلى إلحاق أضرار بالمنازل وتسبب في إخلاء ثماني قرى، مسجلا أن الاستجابة السريعة من الاتحاد الأوروبي ضرورية مرة أخرى.
وتأتي هذه المساعدة في أعقاب استجابة الاتحاد الأوروبي لتنشيط اليونان لآلية الحماية المدنية التابعة للاتحاد الأوروبي الشهر الماضي، عندما تم تعبئة 9 طائرات و510 من رجال الإطفاء و117 مركبة.
